History

In the recent past, several individuals of the Black Greek community had sought various avenues to form an NPHC Council in the Inland Empire, and had taken several small steps to begin the process. However, it was not until May 16, 2004 that these individuals came together to hold the first planning meeting of what would become the NPHC of the Inland Empire. They were Jennifer Smith (Delta Sigma Theta), Michelle Thompson (Zeta Phi Beta), Janetta McDowell and Audra Patton (Sigma Gamma Rho), William Savage (Phi Beta Sigma), and Nicholas Thompson (Omega Psi Phi).

These six individuals began the process that culminated in the chartering of the Inland Empire Council on September 26, 2004. The Council began with five (5) Greek letter chapters. Today, eight of nine of the Divine Nine organizations are represented on the Council.

Currently, our membership extends from the San Gabriel Valley, as far west as Pasadena, eastward through Pomona, Riverside County, and into San Bernardino County. We pride ourselves with assisting the start of the Orange County NPHC.

As a small organization, we operate with a modest, yet zero-based budget. In 2006 and 2007, we awarded several financial scholarships but, phased that portion our education program out to serve in a large capacity for our member organizations. As the Council has grown, we identified several areas that require collaborative development to make the NPHC-IE strong and vibrant. We work diligently to meet that growing need while providing better service to our member organizations.
